Wheeling, WV – The Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVAC) announced that Huntington Bank is launching its second annual scholarship, in partnership with the OVAC, for high school seniors graduating in 2015. The Huntington Bank “Doing the Right Thing” Scholarship was established to recognize outstanding community leadership and academic standing by a student within the OVAC. A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving recipient in the spring of 2015 to be used at a two-year technical college or four-year institution.
“For over the last decade, Huntington has sponsored the extraordinary work of the OVAC and this scholarship has been a significant addition to that tradition. We salute the schools and students participating in OVAC activities and hope this scholarship helps make it possible for the winner to attend the school of his or her choice. The Ohio Valley is a key market for our bank and we are proud to be a part of the community served so well by the OVAC,” said Mary Ann Homic, AVP, Business Banker.
A committee made up of Ohio Valley Athletic Conference administrators and Huntington Bank executives will be responsible for determining the recipient of the award. Award selection will be based on the student’s leadership in community service activities, community service resume, academic grade point average, and the content of a required essay.
Applications have been sent to the OVAC member schools. Students interested in applying should contact the guidance counselor at their respective school. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2015. The scholarship will be awarded at the OVAC’s annual Banquet of Champions on May 18th, 2015.
