CHARLOTTEPREPS.TV KICKOFF NIGHT TO CELEBRATE OPENING OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON
2nd annual event will showcase schools that are familiar to the area, but in match-ups that are not commonplace in Charlotte high school football
Charlotte, NC — Scholastic Sports Marketing is proud to announce the return of the “CharlottePreps.TV Kickoff Night, powered by OrthoCarolina.” The event’s exciting doubleheader will return to Memorial Stadium the opening Thursday of the 2014 season, August 21st. New for this year, the event will feature an additional matchup, played at Providence Day on Saturday, August 23rd at 7:00PM.
“OrthoCarolina has been a proud supporter of high school football across the region for decades and we are thrilled to again partner with CharlottePreps.TV on another fantastic event. This year’s Kickoff Night will be even bigger and better and OrthoCarolina is happy to support it,” said Blair Primis, Director of Marketing for OrthoCarolina.
First up, the north Charlotte Hough Huskies will take on Sun Valley, out of Union County. Coming off solid winning records last year, both teams look to prove dominance within their conferences with newly acquired head coaches.
For the second game of the night, the Charlotte Christian Knights, coming off last year’s Kickoff Night win over Sun Valley and second consecutive NCISAA State Football Championship, will take on the Mavericks of Mallard Creek. The Mavericks offer an exciting challenge for the Knights, as they too come into the game with a NCHSAA 4AA State Champion title. This game is set to occur around 7:45 PM, or approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. This is one of the first CMS vs. private matchups to be seen in regular season football play for quite some time.
Saturday’s game at Providence Day School will vet the Providence Day Chargers against Charlotte Catholic Cougars. Catholic looks to begin a new era in Cougars football at the Kickoff event as they welcome new head coach Mike Brodowicz. This, coupled with Catholic’s impressive 12-3 record from last season, set’s the Cougars’ up to improve upon their already impressive number five ranking in the state for the 2014 season. Providence Day finished last year’s campaign at .500. The Chargers, winners of the 2011 NCISAA State Championship, will be proud hosts for the first ever weekend installment of the Kickoff event.
“Year one of CharlottePreps.TV Kickoff Night exceeded our expectations and today we’re excited to introduce our plans that will take year two to an even higher level. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the official start of the football season! We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from OrthoCarolina, CMS and all of the participating schools. This event will raise money for the participating schools, CMS middle school athletics and continue to provide a positive experience for the youth of our community,” said James Companion of Scholastic Sports Marketing.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Middle School Athletics. In addition, local youth football leagues and teams will be invited to attend the event and be recognized throughout the night’s festivities.
The play-by-play radio broadcasts of the CharlottePreps.TV Kickoff Night games will air live on WFNZ, 610AM The Fan. The games will be televised as well on a tape-delay on Time Warner Cable.
Tickets can be purchased in advance online: $10 for Thursday night’s doubleheader and $7 for Saturday’s game at Providence Day.
